H. Res. 847: Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith

Dec 11, 2007: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. The totals were 372 Ayes, 9 Nays, 50 Present/Not Voting.

What the hell happened here? The 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I'm not really qualified to speak on these sorts of subjects concerning American law making but with an "out-siders" perspective on this, it looks like your House of Reps is looking to turn The U.S of A into a religious state.

It may be there background, the factions that supported and continues to support them in office or the threat  of the Islamic Boogeyman that's hiding under your car ready to blow you up, that has brought this about?

To me, when i read this thread, i thought i caught the distinct wiff of a 21st centuary world wide Great Crusade.

And as far as i have seen in the last few years, it looks like the elected officials care not for the Constitution.

I think it was the un-elected leader G.B that eqated the Constitution to "nothing but a piece of paper'?

Religion and politics are a no-no.

And on another note....children are starving on the streets of this "once great nation", and they take the time to even give this shit attention.

And ironically, Ron Paul would probably be one of the few candidates that would actually endorse bills such as these. He's already stated that the War in Iraq is a "war of faith and religion", Muslim VS Christian. Heck, even George W. Bush won't say stuff like that. Paul, who if you really reflect on the two, isn't that much different from the Presidential campaign of Pat Robertson. They share a hell of a lot of similar "Christian values".
